Daichi has a carefree and reckless nature, and, despite his constant brawls with others, he's a fiercely loyal and protective friend. He thinks things through in a straightforward manner. Even when faced with obvious hostility, he rarely holds a grudge or negative feelings towards an enemy, although does not always see the good either. Daichi constantly tries to prove his strength to others. Due to his reckless nature, any fight Daichi involves himself in usually ends with widespread destruction. Due to his continuous desire for battles, Daichi develops and later shows great wit in battle, quickly identifying his opponent's weaknesses and forming strategies. Daichi also seems to be very stubborn, hardly ever admitting defeat.
Daichi Matsumoto was born in the Village of Kumogakure, just after they rebuilt it. As a baby he slept all day and was active all night, which drove his parents crazy. His mom, Airi Matsumoto comes from a little village not far from Kumogakure. She left at the age of 21 to find new oppurtunities and meet new people. His father, Ryo Matsumoto was born in Kumogakure before it's destruction. At the age of 24 he came back to the newly formed Kumogakure, feeling it's his home and where he belonged. Airi came from an unknown descendant, nobody knew much about her past or her family for that matter. Ryo on the other hand was a Hateshinai, and came to Kumogakure because his parents (Daichi's Grandparents), had to elope together seeing as how both of their families did not aprove of their relationship. Ryo enrolled into the academy as soon as he came of the age and was heavily active in the Shinobi world his entire life. When Ryo hit the age of 21 he got an offer to join the ANBU which he declined, several times until he retired to be with his family. Ryo and Airi opened up a blacksmith shop which was very successful. With the fourth great Shinobi war, the economy was tough for many. Airi has always suffered from depression, but with the money running out and having her husband, Ryo go back to being a Shinobi for the war she got overwhelmed. With Ryo's operation on hold, he got to go back home for a few weeks. As Ryo got home, all he heard was his son crying, he quickly rushed to him and found his wife bleeding in their bedroom. She had attempted suicide as Ryo quickly took her to the hospital. During visiting hours the next day, Ryo took his son Daichi with him although Daichi was to young to fully understand what happened or was happening. They were unable to save Airi, they had to leave her in a coma and was told she would never awake. Ryo, unable to accept that, he tried a forbidden technique and tried to seal Airi's charka within Daichi. Although it was forbidden for a reason, this killed Airi while she was in her coma, and killed Ryo. Over several years Daichi was living in a orphanage. When Daichi turned 8 he got offered a deal by the kage, he said they'd give him an apartment and pay for half of his bills if he becomes a shinobi, they'd also pay for everything until he becomes a full genin, out of the academy. Obviously Daichi took this deal, leaving the orphanage.

During the ages of five to nine, Daichi stayed at an orphanage in Kumogakure. Daichi never cared for the orphanage but never outspokenly complained about it, except with Mari. Mari was the one friend Daichi truelly had at the orphanage, the one he'd spend most of his time with. Together they had many laughs and many conversations, daily spending time together. Although at the age of seven Daichi was being read a book to by Mari, until she got called to the headmaster's office. Daichi quietly followed and listened into the conversation. That was the last day they spent together before Mari was sent to her new parents' house where she lived with a wealthy family. Daichi tried to go with, but was scornfully told no.
"Atleast one of us will be happy... Right, Daichi?"
She liked reading books and doing puzzles. She frequently studied to remain as a model student. She was often seen with a book, and seems to of loved mysteries the best. She relied a lot on books to help her understand things, and was teased sometimes by Daichi, who called her a geek. She seemed to prefer to stay outdoors, and read or study, emphasized by her lack of ability to play games such as soccer. She was also known to write poetry when she felt troubled. She was also stubborn, foolhardy, to Daichi, at least. Despite her mature and serious behaviour, she sometimes showed some child-like girlish traits. Although usually polite to any, she had a rather informal way of speaking with Daichi. Mari was bright, cheerful, direct and confident, in stark contrast to Daichi. She was enthusiastic, but sometimes took her enthusiasm too far and can be bossy at times. However, overtime, she could admit to her mistakes and was not too proud to apologize. She was kind and caring to her friends (Although the only true one was Daichi). Her willing to help was not limited to Daichi, as she would stop to help out or even encourage strangers that she found are having a hard time. She would not hesitate to do anything to help her friends, although she would also not hesitate to put them in line if they do something inappropriate.
