Raiden prefers to keep a distance between himself and his enemies, as he's rather frail physically. He uses genjutsu to help him remain out of sight for the majority of his missions, preferring for his teammates to distract the enemy to trap them in his genjutsu as well. Should the need arise, he uses specialized lightning- and water-style ninjutsu to keep his foes distracted and at a distance so he can take them out at range with his yumi, or allow his allies to do so instead. Should be be forced into melee-range, anything varying from smoke bombs, substitutions, or genjutsu to get to safety is utilized. He relies on his quick it to get him through most situations rather than finesse or brute force, throwing off the dim-witted foes.
Appearance
Raiden is nothing intimidating to look at. He stands a mere 5'4" and looks almost as scrawny as death. Some might even find his gangly appearance somewhat haunting. His skin is a mahagony brown, rich with color from under the sun as well as genetics. His head is topped with fine white hair that is loosely styled. His stark features frame a pair of eyes the color of white tea leaves (a pale green). He's usually seen in the traditional dress of Kumogakure chuunin, though while relaxing he wears a simple white robe.
Personality
Despite his grim appearance, Raiden is actually rather outgoing and personable. When not using his wit to beat the enemy, he often uses to it lighten the mood amongst his comrades and superiors. He always takes his missions seriously, however, but is more than willing to make light of the fact afterward, whether success or failure took place.

Background
Raiden was born 3 weeks premature to a mother and father who's children had all died before him due to genetic defects. Their immune system was depressed to an extent where they couldn't hold up even to common germs and never made it past infancy. As the sixth child, his parents Daiko and Shizune were desperate for him to live. Having been born that early had the odds stacked against him, not to mention the flawed immune system. However, due to recent advances in medical ninjutsu, Raiden was able to survive, but only with the help of an aid, Hikume.
Daiko ran a carpentry business within Kumogakure, his wife dealing with the paperwork aspects. For most of his early years Raiden was forced to stay within his house reading books or playing alone under the supervision of Hikume. They couldn't resist outside exposure and lose another child. Despite the circumstances, his parents always did their best to keep him cheerful and ensure optimism in his life.
It wasn't until Raiden was 12 that he had exhibited signs of being an exceptional shinobi-to-be. Daiko and Shizune had returned from work to find Raiden crying in the corner with Hikume paralyzed in the center of the room. It took nearly 3 hours for the genjutsu to wear off on Hikume, with Raiden still in tears. Hikume, having been a former Jonin, was the only one to realize the extent of the genjutsu that Raiden placed him under and insisted that he be placed in the academy to learn to control his abilities.
Having enrolled, it only proved further that Raiden was weark in body, but strong in mind and heart. Having never been in such close proximity to other children, he was often ill and Hikume would have to retrieve lessons from the academy to instruct him at home. As the years passed, he eventually caught up to the rest of his classmates and became a genin and his immune system grew a little stronger, partially in thanks to antibiotic injections Hikume had created.
At first, Raiden was not allowed to go on many missions because of his disability. Even though for genin a mission composed of deliveries, rescuing cats from trees, and walking dogs, it was still too much of a risk and even he knew it. He was never formally assigned to a squad but instead worked privately with Hikume to develop his skills as well as independent missions assigned by the Raikage. Despite his proficiencies with genjutsu and ninjutsu, Hikume believed it was important for Raiden to learn to defend himself in other ways as well, providing him with archery lessons.
His lanky build made him the perfect archer, as he had plenty of room to maneuver his arms and the bow. He was not as skilled at this in other areas, but eventually learned to manipulate his chakra to enhance his aim and endurance with it. Slowly but surely, his arm muscles grew strong enough to pull the string back with ease, as well as fire rapidly.
Spending many years as a genin, it wasn't until he was 18 that he first entered the chuunin exams--without a squad. He was flying solo. It wasn't that he didn't need one or that he was the lone wolf type, it was that he had never formally had one. The only person he ever worked with was Hikume. The optimism instilled by his parents never faultered and if he failed, he would simply train more and try again in 6 months, right?
Raiden stuck to the shadows, being older and wiser than most of the other participants. He'd wait for two other teams to engage before distracting them further with genjutsu to swipe the needed scrolls. When if came time for the one-on-one matches, the amount of concern could not be measured. Raiden was still very frail despite his training and could very easily be killed, despite there being officials. His goal was simple: Don't get hit.
That plan didn't go over very well and he was struck with a kunai within the first minute, the younger competitors immediately ridiculing and insulting him for being so weak...but as he was rushed off on a stretcher, he smiled and paid them no mind.
Six months later he was back in that arena, ready to win. There were a new batch of genin, save the ones that failed previously and he was determined to win. As soon as the match started, Raiden fired off his genjutsu to distract his opponent. A flash of light enshrouded the arena and when it dimmed...there were four of him. Raiden had no experience with shadow clones, but he knew his opponent would fall for it. While the genjutsu clones kept his foe distracted, the fifth Raiden, the true raiden snuck behind and struck him with a paralysis genjutsu. He smirked and almost felt bad for the child for being so foolish, so reckless. Walking over he placed a single finger on the back of his opponent's head and pushed, faceplanting him into the ground. He was declared victor and dispelled his jutsu, gaining the rank of chuunin.
With the Raikage and the other ninja now fully aware of Raiden's specialties, he was assigned to a squad specializing in stealth, espionage, and recon, spending his years as a chuunin with them.
Misc. Facts/Quirks -Due to his weak immune system, Raiden is more susceptible to poisons than other ninja, taking more damage and a penalty to defend against them (in part RP, or TBD by DMs) -Raiden must take antibiotic injections every 12 hours or become further at risk to disease and infection. Extra antibiotics are required for any wounds he receives -Any missions scheduled to take longer than a few days require Hikume to accompany him for support, or another skilled med-nin.
