In the system you could technically be a level 40 genin (or a high level genin atleast). Meaning DF-wise you could be on par with higher rank shinobi. To do this one has to invest a big amount of tokens. Through Chuunin exams / promotions a character can rank up. If you do not invest tokens in levels, can you still rank up? (e.g. a lvl 10 Chuunin shinobi). Or do you get free levels to a base minumum for a specific rank (e.g. normally chuunin start at lvl 20 or something. So if you pass chuunin exams and are lvl 15 you get a free reward of 5 levels)? Meaning that following the ''normal'' route is rewarded.

| I imagine if you've done enough RP to be considered for Chuunin you've probably also earned enough RP Tokens/XP Markers for it as well. | |

| Going to missions (spot to get rp tokens from) also yieds XP tokens. So those two go up as long as you do rp. And if you do enough missions you will be considered for promotion. Simple. | |

| Promotion is not the point :p.
Its the relation between Rank - Levels. Whereas you could become a lvl 40 Genin... It would be weird to be a lvl 20 Jonin.

| Well it's not all that strange really. I mean, if you look at Naruto. He was still a Genin, while others much weaker than him (disregarding the Jinchuuriki factor), were of higher rank. When it came down to it, he may have been stronger, but he had to obey those of higher rank, and it causes its own set of IC complications for the character.
A genin being stronger isn't entirely unreasonable. It just means that they've either been ICly lazy (as in that's just the character as it is), or the character has run into complications in their career that caused them to miss the opportunity to be promoted.

| There are no 'free' promotions or 'free' levels granted to anyone on the server. Chuunin and Jounin are ranks of merit and progression. Shinobi who are not necessarily the 'strongest' may end up attaining these ranks due to their ability to accomplish the mission objectives and serve their Village. There are 'soft caps' in place when it comes to determining Ranking [I'm not actually sure what we're still waiting on when it comes to player ranks, I believe we need to get in touch with the Village DMs as they'll be the actual people who are assessing player performance and handing out ranks], in which a player is required to show a certain level of accomplishment in order to continue.
E.G. A level 15 Genin who outperforms a level 20 Genin in the Chuunin Exams may be selected for Chuunin over the higher level Genin, but that higher level Genin will most likely find themselves promoted provided they are routinely taking missions and performing up to expectations with other Chuunin.
A level 25 Chuunin who outperforms a level 30-35 Chuunin may find themselves being evaluated for, and promoted to Jounin before their peer. Likewise, a level 25 Chuunin who has specialized may find themselves achieving the rank of Tokubetsu Jounin [still Jounin] above their peer, while their peer may end up attaining the rank later on after rounding out their skillset a bit more.
In both of the above examples, the lower level has an implicit disadvantage that may be overcome through smart play and intelligent use of skillset, but their level will not change to reflect their new rank - nor do players who are implicitly stronger, but fail to show aptitude enough to acquire a new rank, get a rank to reflect their level.
Your level and your rank are correlated, but do not cause one another.
[Some non-MCS examples from the anime: Might Duy is one of the few Shinobi to have ever mastered all 8 gates, and never received a promotion above Genin. Shikamaru Nara is considered to be - abilitywise - far below the threshold for most Chuunin, but his talent for leadership, grasp of the task at hand, and ability to allocate resources to ensure efficient success allowed him a promotion to Chuunin far before any of his peers got that opportunity, despite MOST of them being more skilled than he was.]

| At the moment, we are fleshing out items in general. When that is done, we will figure out balance for custom items | |
