Requirements for attaining an RP Rank

Genin

  • Genin; Lowest Rank of Shinobi. Little to no authority inside of the village. Function solely within a team - not allowed to function as a solo Shinobi, or within pairs. Must be supervised on missions by a higher rank Shinobi, regardless of ability.
  • Requirements; Graduate the Academy.
    ____________________

  • Yorinuki Genin; No additional IC privileges, considered Genin for the sake of rank.
  • Requirements: Must have successfully completed three C-Rank Missions; Must have attended a Chuunin Exam once in their lifetime as a participant - Genin who are considered for B-Rank Missions and have successfully participated within a Chuunin Squad do not need to meet the Chuunin Exam Requirement
  • Considered to be of greater reliability than normal Genin. These Genin are considered to participate on Chuunin Teams, or may be chosen to lead a Genin Team of three under the supervision of their team leader.

Chuunin

  • Chuunin; Middle Rank of Shinobi. Moderate authority inside of the village. The majority of Shinobi are found at this rank. Function primarily within a team, but may be chosen for E, or D-Rank missions when no other Genin Team is available. In this instance, Chuunin may be sent alone or in pairs to accomplish routine objectives. May function as Instructors, Genin Team Leaders, Chuunin Team Leaders, Medical Officers, etc. etc.
  • Requirements; Must have participated in a Chuunin Exam and be directly granted a promotion as a result
  • This requirement may be ignored if the Shinobi was a Yorinuki Genin and has participated in five or more successful missions with a Chuunin Team. Promotion must come by reference from a higher-ranked Shinobi, or from the DM Team.
    ____________________

  • Seiei Chuunin; No additional IC privileges, considered Chuunin for the sake of rank.
  • Requirements: Must have successfully completed three B-Rank or higher missions. Must have participated on a Jounin Team on a successful mission. Must be an accomplished Chuunin Team Leader with at least one A-Rank mission success.
  • In most cases, a Seiei Chuunin has been evaluated for promotion to Jounin at least once in their life and has failed to meet the minimum requirements for at least the Tokubetsu Jounin rank.

Jounin

  • High Rank of Shinobi. Large authority inside of the village. Few current Shinobi attain this rank at the current time. Function primarily within a cell, but may be chosen for B, or A-Rank missions when no other Genin Team is available. In this instance, Jounin may be sent alone or in pairs to accomplish routine objectives. May function as Instructors, Chuunin Team Leaders, Jounin Team Leaders, Medical Officers, etc. etc.
  • Jounin are evaluated for promotion through a test of their knowledge and abilities similar to a smaller-scale, focused Chuunin Exam. In this instance, all aspects of a Shinobi are tested. Few Shinobi are chosen for Jounin as a result of their exam. Many Jounin are promoted after they have failed an exam, and proven themselves to consistently perform at an above average level as Seiei Chuunin.
    ____________________

  • Jounin; The highest recognized rank of Shinobi within a village - outside of the Kage himself. They have a large amount of authority within their own village. Few Shinobi currently hold this formal rank, and the requirements for attaining it are significantly higher than achieving that of Chuunin. Jounin function primarily within a team of two other Jounin and themselves, but may be called upon to act alone on Missions C-Rank or below, or work in pairs in order to complete B-Rank Missions when no other teams are available. To achieve the rank of full 'Jounin', a character must exhibit superior function in the many forms of Shinobi combat - showing proficiency in Taijutsu, competency in Kenjutsu and Genjutsu, and proficiency in at least two Elemental Natures. Jounin function as Instructors, Chuunin Team Leaders, Genin Team Leaders, Jounin Team Leaders, Medical Officers, Ambassadors, Advisors, and may even function as part of a larger council for the Kage to refer to. Kage are almost always selected by their Jounin Council, with approval from the Daimyo, or vice-versa.
  • Requirements: Must have successfully completed at least three A-Rank missions.
  • Must have participated on a Jounin team on a successful mission.
  • The above requirement may be ignored if the Shinobi in question has ten or more successful missions at B-Rank or higher, as a team leader. In this instance, the Shinobi in question must be a Seiei Chuunin.

  • Tokubetsu Jounin; No additional IC privileges, considered Jounin for the sake of rank. One sub-step down from Jounin. A Tokubetsu Jounin is a Shinobi who has shown ability and knowledge in a single form of Shinobi combat, but otherwise is not performing up to expected levels in the other ranks of Shinobi combat. Most Tokubetsu Jounin do not become full-fledged Jounin as a result of their specialized nature, but this is not a hard and fast rule. Tokubetsu Jounin fill specialized gaps in the village's Shinobi population, and may be anything from Spies and Sensor-Nin, to Taijutsu Specialists, Instructors, Exam Proctors, to specialized guards.
  • Requirements; Must have successfully completed two A-Rank or higher missions.
  • Must have participated on a Jounin Team on a successful mission.
  • The above requirement may be ignored if the Shinobi in question has five or more successful missions at B-Rank or higher, as a team leader. In this instance, the Shinobi in question must be at least of Chuunin Rank.

  • Hinyaku Jounin; No additional IC privileges, considered Jounin for the sake of rank. One sub-step up from Jounin. A Hinyaku Jounin is a Shinobi who has shown proficiency above that of your average Jounin. These Jounin set themselves apart on a consistent basis and are chosen for missions that some Jounin are not even allowed to go on. Hinyaku Jounin represent the cream of the crop and are often mentors, role models, or assume positions of high authority within the village. Without an additional station, however, these Jounin are still Jounin and must answer to other forms of authority as expected. Hinyaku Jounin are usually classified as S-Rank Shinobi, and fill positions such as Jounin Commander, ANBU Black Ops Commander, Medical Commander, Commander of Defense, Commander of Offense, Jounin Team Leader, Chuunin Team Leader, or Genin Team Leader. They may be allowed to act alone or in a pair on missions A-Rank or below. They work best in groups of three, as leaders, or within pairs on A-Rank or lower missions. These Shinobi are a village's most heavily valued shinobi, second to their Kage.
  • Requirements; Must have successfully completed three S-Rank Mission.
  • Must be an accomplished Jounin Team Leader with at least one successful S-Rank Mission.
  • Must have distinguished themselves in some way from their peers, either with consistent notable success, reference from their superiors or peers, or reference from the Daimyo.

S-Rank

  • Not a mechanically recognized rank; recognized ICly for superior ability compared to other Shinobi
  • Kage, Jounin Commander, ANBU Black Ops Commander, Medical Commander, Commander of Defense, Commander of Offense, Jounin Team Leaders, etc. etc.
  • At this time, S-Rank is a rather prestigous position, and will be handled with the reputation system AND a case-by-case basis.

ANBU

May be of any rank, invite only, work within teams based on available skill, not necessarily rank hierarchy.
ANBU have their own ranks within the black-ops.
Commander, Field Leader, Hunter, Interrogator, Cleaner, Agent, Medical Specialist.
____________________

  • Field Leader: Leads a team of ANBU Operatives in the field. Receives the rank of Jounin upon leaving the ANBU Black-Ops. Has no recognized rank within the Village. Answers to Jounin and higher inside the village, outside of the ANBU Black Ops.
  • Hunter: Most skilled member of an ANBU Team. Considered a superior Shinobi and an extremely gifted weapon to be wielded by the Field Leader. Receives the rank of Seiei Chuunin, or Jounin upon leaving the ANBU Black-Ops. Has no recognized rank within the Village. Answers to Chuunin and higher inside the village.
  • Interrogator: Most skilled information gathering specialist in an ANBU Team. May be separated into different ranks depending on skill and merit. Has no recognized rank within the Village. Answers to Chuunin and higher inside the village.
  • Cleaner: In charge of removing all evidence of Black-Ops involvement from the scene of an engagement. This may mean: removing bodies, removing physical evidence, memorizing and ensuring a scene is exactly as it was when the Black-Ops entered, removing the memories from passerby utilizing kinjutsu, or eliminating any witnesses and removing their bodies if necessary. Receives the rank of Chuunin upon leaving the ANBU Black-Ops. Has no recognized rank within the village. Answers to Chuunin and higher inside of the village.
  • Medical Specialist: In charge of maintaining the health - physical, mental, and spiritual - of the ANBU Black-Ops. They may work in the field or stay at home. They receive the rank of Seiei Chuunin, or Chuunin upon leaving the ANBU Black-Ops. Has no recognized rank within the village. Answers to Chuunin and higher inside of the village
  • Agent:  A member of the ANBU Black-Ops with no distinct function or role beyond a participating Shinobi. These Shinobi have a varied number of specialties and resources and are placed on missions depending on the need determined by the ANBU Black Ops Commander and Field Leaders. Agents may receive a rank from Chuunin, Seiei Chuunin, or Tokubetsu Jounin, depending on their level of proficiency and their commendations when leaving the ANBU Black-ops. They have no recognized rank within the village. Answers to Chuunin and higher inside the village.

Things to keep in mind:
  • No minimum/maximum level to attain a rank - rank should be organically achieved based on roleplay and commendations in village
  • Ranks are based on Roleplay over Rollplay.
  • Alternative groups such as Puppet Brigade or the like are handled between the Village DMs in question. ANBU can be used as a framework for these.
