There was something to be said about indirect combat. Inbi showed him that in his crazy attempt to fend off three people at once. Most of his training (at least the type he volunteered for anyways) was always about charging in and outmaneuvering his opponents. A swift takedown. But, the more Jinrai saw from others, the more he began to really understand- a shinobi has to have many tools at their disposal to function in many situations. He won't always be contending with one person, nor would he always be alone. Trudging his way through the dojo with a freshly procured scroll from the clan's texts, he sighed and unfurled it-

"Yeah, I think this' the right one- er... hold on-" Murmuring to himself in the dark, he cautiously lit a sconce in the corner of the room, looming over the diagrams. Seems his squinting did some good- this was it. The next step. Jin briefly wondered if he was pushing too fast- after all, it wasn't so long ago he was forbidden from even manifesting his chakra for fear of harming those around him. Now he's going to be surrounding a dummy with his chakra. Or... at least that's the idea.

"H'aright... 'least all've the clan jutsu uses th'same signs. Load off'a my mind..." Squinting further in the dark, Jinrai blows out his candle and quite carefully sets that precious scroll aside... far in the corner, away from everything else. And then covers it in a blanket. He walks across the mats to drag out a brand new Dummy from the opposite corner with a light, rolling step as not to alert anyone else in the compound, pausing frequently to each and every little creak and squeak before even daring to breathe normally again, wiping the back of his hand across his forehead and eventually tying down his poor practice dummy. One last double-check to the entrance begets a formation of that singular handseal, and Jinrai narrows his gaze across to his target, his roiling haze of chakra barely visible reflecting the moonlight.

"One captured dummy, comin' up... hopefully ... intact..."

For the second morning in a row, Hareyaka drifts into the dojo upon finding her younger son missing from his room. Passed out in the center of the training mats, she sighs to herself and shakes her head. The propped up dummy at the other end seems brittle and aged, and the mats underneath Jinrai are frayed. Those are going to have to be replaced, and she knows exactly who is going to fix them. With a gentle shake of Jinrai's shoulder, she crouches down, clearing her throat.

"Oh son of mine? Wake up, dear... you have some work to do today!"

After returning from Tea country and having Satoshi over, Jin lounged in the baths, trying to wash away the scent of sea-salt from his skin. He sighed and watched the ceiling through the heated steam, shifting with a minor wave in the pool. "Still got a ways to go... Saya didn't even move from her spot when she was fighting. She seemed so bored. I wonder if... maybe... there's some way I could do that with the clan jutsu? There's got to be something here..." He dunked his head underwater and blew out a long string of bubbles, feeling the aches of the long road slowly ease away in the heated waters. "I'll just ask Mika later. If she can't, then maybe she can get me a scroll like she did with Ten, and we'll go from there." With a splash, Jin erupts from the waters, spilling out around the tiles and hopping over the edge. He barely toweled himself off before heading out to his next mission- finding Mika.

"No more time to be holding back. Not if I want to keep pushing forward."

Jin had been walking for an hour or two, lugging his supplies over-shoulder in search for an oasis out of the way. He kept his card from Mao in the previous day's mission, and pulled one of the maps from the library in the clan compound, marching further west from the village, making sure to avoid those oases marked by Mao's notes. Over in the distance, Jin spotted the hints of a palm tree, his pace starting to pick up as he readied himself to get moving faster... and to go back on a year of his training. No more leashing his chakra.

His tabi crunched in the sandy shore packed more tightly by the water nearby, and Jin took his time refilling his canteens first and foremost. If this place was going to go to waste, it's best if as much of it can be put to use as possible, anyways. For the first time in a year and a season, Jin formed the seal of the hermit without any reservations, letting his chakra pervade the area. The pool of water at his feet bucked and pushed away, drifting and hissing as drew into mist, and even further out to disperse in the air, little by little.

"Only way to keep people from dying is to keep them preserved, right Ten?"

A bitter smile crept along Jin's face as he murmured to himself. His cheeks grew red, but no tears would manage to fall that afternoon, killed off too quickly along with the remains of that resting place in the desert.
